Fireman’s Watch .

Photo: Jan Tarrant

Pete Ashpool writes:
"....a great part of the model was based on Sutton Scotney (working from my photograph).

The clock tower was taken from the Clock tower that was on the HOLBEACH Lincolnshire old Fire Station in Stukely Hall Grounds (originally the Stable Block for the hall).

Link to Pete's site about Holbeach.

The block also housed a Lincolnshire Ambulance Service Ambulance. When they demolished the station building they saved the clock tower and it stands in the grounds of Stukely Hall. I'm proud to say it was me that contacted LL to ask when will they produce a Fire Station. I was asked to come up with unusual buildings used has fire stations these included the other thatched fire station Middle Tysoe Warwickshire, Ottery st Mary (old chapel), Windermere (the swiss cottage), Holbeach, and Sutton Scotney plus a few others. I even suggested the action shot! ie the station turning out with people running into the station cycles leaning against the building a kids watching, I hope this will add a bit of extra interest for you and answered why there is a clock tower."

Sutton Scotney

Jan Tarrant info:

"The Old Fire Station (next door and now part of the Coach and Horses Public House) was Hampshire's only thatched fire station.

Jan Tarrant info:

The Church In The Wood

Bramdean Common

From info I suggest you take Wood Lane out of Bramford and it should be on the left as you come to Bramdean Common. No idea about signage.

"Due to security problems, the Church in the Woods is not open during the day except when there is a service taking place - although you can walk around the outside of the church in the open woodland at anytime.

Evensong services fortnightly from May to September

JRS note: This type of bulding was used widely as church halls, there used to be one as "The Vicarage Room" in Great Baddow where I lived for many years.
