This page is about Emily's younger brother, Jim Bowers

During the war Jim served in the army.

He was part of the Normandy invasion, "Neptune" (the entire operation was "Overlord") arriving on June 8, 1944 D-Day+2, as part of Field Marshall Montgomery's personal guard. "Monty" formed his HQ in Chateau de Creully which Churchill visited on June 12 and de Gaulle on June 14.

Jim said he never actually got his feet wet.

He was wounded with shrapnel wounds and this, together with a broken relationship and later ECT left him changed.

He spent the rest of his life at home in Freshwater Road working as a tanner at the factory next door and living a quiet life.
